### Objective
Learn to use an [[AATD]] simulator without accidentally breaking it.
**Resources:** [[AC 61-136]]
**Schedule:** Sim 0.5 hr
15 min in two different simulators
### Lesson Elements
- Booking, 'preflighting', and turning on the sim
- Basic settings and use
- Audio can be useful (although be aware it can be loud in the halls)
- Some have G1000 NXi as well as older G1000
- Weather setting quirks
- Speeding up time
- Pausing with 'P'
- Turning off the sim
- [[LOA]]

- Logging time
- Generally, for [[PPL]], Jack recommends not logging solo simulator time at all, and just logging ground time when with an instructor
- [[DPE]]s tend to be confused by simulator time in a PPL checkride
- For [[IFR]], there are competing approaches to logging
- Generally, pick a method and be consistent
- FARs require
- > [!quote] Portions of [[FAR 61.51 Pilot Logbooks]]
> - Standard information (date, flight/lesson time, description/signature for dual, etc)
> - ...for lessons in a full flight simulator or flight training device, the location where the lesson occurred
> - Type and identification of aircraft, full flight simulator, flight training device, or aviation training device, as appropriate.
> - Type of pilot experience or training—...Training received in a full flight simulator, flight training device, or aviation training device from an authorized instructor.
> - Simulated instrument conditions in flight, a full flight simulator, flight training device, or aviation training device.
> - A person may use time in a full flight simulator, flight training device, or aviation training device for acquiring instrument aeronautical experience for a pilot certificate or rating provided an authorized instructor is present to observe that time and signs the person's logbook or training record to verify the time and the content of the training session.
> - A person may use time in a full flight simulator, flight training device, or aviation training device for satisfying instrument recency experience requirements provided a logbook or training record is maintained to specify the training device, time, and the content.
- There are different theories on how best to comply with the regulations
- Jack prefers [ForeFlight's method](https://support.foreflight.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000276928-How-can-simulator-time-be-logged-in-ForeFlight-Logbook), but [others](https://flypfc.com/wp-content/uploads/How-to-Log-Time.pdf) are also reasonable
