### Introduction Unusual attitudes are those not normally required during instrument flight or VFR flight.  These extreme combinations of pitch and/or bank attitudes are most likely to happen during a momentary lapse in attention, especially when hand-flying in IMC conditions.  They need to be corrected immediately to avoid a total loss of control, a stall, or a crash.  And by 'corrected', we mean returning the plane to straight-and-level flight. On your checkride, the examiner will have you put on the hood, then close your eyes while they put the plane into one of these attitudes.  Then you'll open your eyes (still wearing the hood), quickly examine the instruments to determine the problem, and correct it quickly. **Pre-Lesson Reading/Homework:** [[~ PPL Pre-Lesson Reading]] **Builds On:** [[PPL5.1 Emergency Flight by Instruments - Four Fundamentals]] **Schedule:** Ground 0.5 hr, Sim/Flight 1.0 hr ### CFI Equipment Hood or foggles ### Lesson Elements ![[Unusual Attitude Recovery]] ### Completion Standards Student demonstrates the ability to recognize, confirm, and recover from unusual attitudes, applying the appropriate pitch, bank, and power corrections in the correct sequence to return the aircraft to a stabilized level flight attitude. > [!success]- Tolerances (Partial) from [[Private Pilot ACS|ACS]] > Correct sequence in recovery ### Resources - [[Private Pilot ACS]] Section VIII.E - [[IFH]] Ch7 ### Required Homework - [ ] Memorize and rehearse recovery from nose-high and nose-low - [ ] Purchase items from [[PPL.C When to Acquire Various Equipment]] - [ ] Schedule checkride, depending on wait times ### Recommended Homework None *Return to [[~ PPL Lesson Plan Outline|Table of Contents]]^*
